What personal data we collect and why we collect it


If you leave a comment on our site we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. You may optionally also save your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

A hash, in other words an anonymised string created from your email address, may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact and petition forms

If you contact us via the form provided on our Contact page, or sign the petition on our home page, you are required to fill out your Name and Email Address at a minimum. The former is necessary in order for HandsFaceGrace to know how to refer to you, and the latter is necessary so that we know which address we shall respond to you on.

In the case of the petition form, if you have entered a Name and Email Address then successfully validated your signature by clicking the link on the email you receive, you understand that the information you send in that form will be stored in a database. This helps us to inform our campaign, and to review the impact we our having on our community. Automated emails may be sent to to aid with archival of data.

Who we share your data with

Visitors’ comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Beyond this scope however, we have no intentions to share data with anyone unless it is necessary to do so for administrative, legal, or security reasons, or you have given us clear written permission.

How long we retain your data


When you write a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Contact and petition forms

Credentials you enter in the form when you give your signature to our petition or when you contact us – the Name and Email Address at least, as well as the Subject and Message on the contact form if you chose to provide them – are held under further notice. This ensures we are able to respond to you, and to keep track of prior communications.

What rights you have over your data

If you have posted comments, contacted us or signed our petition form, you can request to receive an exhaustive list of the personal data we know we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

On the petition form there is a checkbox with the label ‘I wish to receive further communications from HandsFaceGrace’. If you ticked that while adding your signature but would now like to withdraw your consent from further emails and other interactions, we will honour any request to do so as soon as possible.
